En la frutería (España): frases rápidas para preguntar precios y ofertas. In English: short phrases about prices.

¿A cuánto está el kilo? — For fruit/vegetables sold by weight. Answer: Está a 2,99€ el kilo.

¿Cuánto vale esto? — For one specific item (melón, sandía).

¿Qué precio tiene? — Synonym of “¿Cuánto vale?”. Neutral and clear.

¿Está de oferta? / Está de oferta — On sale / discounted. You’ll also see: 3x2, 2ª unidad -70%.

Culture: you don’t bargain in supermarkets; in traditional markets, very little. In other words, haggling is almost not done.

The shop assistant says: “¿Qué te pongo?” (“What can I get you?” / “What would you like?”). Answer: “Póngame medio kilo de tomates”. This is similar to saying “I’ll have / Please give me…”.

Useful quantities: kilo, medio kilo, cuarto (250 g). Example: “Póngame kilo y medio de naranjas”.
