Español en el deporte: seguir, dejar de y volver a
Dannis
Useful verb phrases to talk about continuity, stopping, and repetition. Use them to say “I’m still doing it”, “I stop”, or “I do it again”. For English speakers, think “to continue / to stop / again”.
Seguir + gerundio = to continue. E.g.: "Sigo entrenando" (I keep training); "¿Sigues trabajando en el club?" (Are you still working at the club?). It shows that the action continues.
Dejar de + infinitivo = to stop. E.g.: "Dejé de fumar" (I stopped smoking); "No dejes de venir a clase" (Don’t stop coming to class / Don’t miss class). It talks about interrupting a habit or an action.
Volver a + infinitivo = to do something again (to repeat an action). E.g.: "Volvieron a ganar el campeonato" (They won the championship again); "¿Puedes volver a explicarlo?" (Can you explain it again?). It expresses repetition.
