In Germany, the doctor's office sends the electronic sick note (eAU) to your health insurance. Your employer retrieves the info. You still notify your employer that you are sick.
There are three ways: app, eGK, or paper printout.
You can use your eGK (health card) at the pharmacy or get a paper printout (Ausdruck) with a QR code. A phone app is optional.
It’s the plastic health insurance card with a chip.
At the pharmacy, you can use your eGK to retrieve your e‑prescription.
ab = from; bis = until.
Use “ab” for the start date and “bis” for the end date: gültig ab 01.12.2025 bis 07.12.2025.
Printout = optional alternative for the prescription, not a full replacement for your health card.
A printout (Ausdruck) with a QR code is one option to redeem an e‑prescription. It doesn’t replace your health insurance card in general.
