¿Cuánto tiempo llevas? Duración de hábitos (estudio/trabajo)

Goal: say how long you’ve had your study or work habit. In Spain people talk a lot about time management and work–life balance; learn how to talk about it clearly!

Llevar + gerundio = “I’ve been doing X for Y time already”. Pattern: Llevo + period of time + gerund. E.g.: Llevo 2 años estudiando diseño. Useful question: ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas estudiando?

Hace + tiempo + que + presente. E.g.: Hace 2 años que estudio diseño. Equivalent to llevar + gerundio. Very common for habits.

Desde hace + period of time: a duration that continues up to now. E.g.: Trabajo en remoto desde hace 6 meses. “desde hace” = “for” (ongoing action).

Comparison: Llevo 6 meses trabajando = Hace 6 meses que trabajo = Trabajo desde hace 6 meses. Three correct ways to say the same thing.

Venir + gerundio (B1): a gradual process up to now. E.g.: Venimos mejorando la organización del equipo (“little by little / progressively”). Very useful at work / in long-term projects.

Key questions: ¿Desde cuándo…? ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que…? ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas…? Answer with desde hace / hace… que / llevar + gerundio.

Tip (negation): Hace un mes que no la veo. Or: No la veo desde hace un mes. Very natural for routines.
