Comprehension check:
What does the customer say when they check/look for their card?
A ver
Venga ya
Pues nada
Correct answer: "A ver". This filler word is often used when we "look/check" something or when we’re about to take the next step (compare with the spontaneous-speech example "a ver si llueve pronto" shown in the material on everyday small talk).
Think of the phrase Spaniards say right when they start checking or looking for something.
What happened with the payment?
Карта сначала не прошла, а потом оплата прошла.
Клиент сразу заплатил наличными.
Была ошибка в цене, они спорили.
The cashier states the amount using the typical Peninsular Spanish pattern "son X con Y" (for example, "son 5 con 50 en total"), and at first the customer can’t pay with the card. Then the successful payment is confirmed by the line "Venga, ahora sí: pagado". Expressions for payments and talking about amounts are covered in the section on shopping and checkout phrases.
Listen to the part after "Tarjeta... A ver, pruebo". What does the customer say next?
Which line does the person in the queue say to show mild annoyance or disbelief?
Venga ya
Pues nada
A ver
"¡Venga ya!" is a colloquial reaction that expresses disbelief/irritation and works well as a comment when you’re standing in line (see the list of colloquial expressions, where "¡Venga ya!" is given as a reaction of disbelief or playful objection). The final "Hasta luego" is a standard way to say goodbye in Spanish shops.
This exclamation often conveys something like: "Come on! Oh, stop it already!"
