Hace + tiempo + que + presente: an action that started in the past and still continues. E.g.: Hace 3 meses que no veo a mi familia. (in English: "I haven't seen my family for 3 months")

Negative: Hace + tiempo + que + no + verbo. E.g.: Hace años que no celebramos juntos San Juan.

Llevar + gerundio: duration of an ongoing action. E.g.: Llevo dos años viviendo en España. Negative alternative: Llevo 6 meses sin ir a casa. (in English: "I haven't gone home for 6 months")

Desde hace + tiempo (with the present): No veo a mi familia desde hace medio año. (in English: "I haven't seen my family for half a year")

Desde + point in time: No nos vemos desde julio / desde Navidad. (in English: "since July / since Christmas")

To talk about the time left until a celebration: Quedan dos semanas para Semana Santa. Also: Falta un mes para Navidad. (in English: "there are … left until…")

In Spanish, to express a duration up to now, use: Hace + tiempo + que + presente. The other options are either ungrammatical or change the meaning.
Remember the pattern: Hace + tiempo + que + presente (also with "no").

When we say how much time is left until an event, we use Quedar + tiempo + para + evento.
The meaning is: "there are … left until …".
Select the correct sentence: "We haven’t seen each other since July."
No nos vemos desde julio.
No nos vemos desde hace julio.
Hace julio que no nos vemos.
No nos vemos por julio.
Correct: desde + a point in time (month, date, holiday). "Desde hace" is used with a period: desde hace 3 meses.
Desde + point (julio, Navidad). Desde hace + period (tres meses).
Choose the natural form with llevar: "I’ve been living in Madrid for two years."
Llevo dos años viviendo en Madrid.
Llevo dos años vivir en Madrid.
Desde hace dos años vivo Madrid.
Quedan dos años para vivir en Madrid.
Llevar + tiempo + gerundio expresses the duration of an action that is still in progress. The other options are ungrammatical or change the meaning.
After llevar we use a gerund: llevando, viviendo, trabajando…
