Mini‑guide: confirmation tags in a team. Small questions at the end to ask for agreement. Useful in IT and office meetings. Similar to adding “right?” or “yeah?” at the end in English.

¿no? = simple confirmation. Example: “Esto entra en el sprint, ¿no?” (like adding “right?” at the end).

¿verdad? = a bit more formal/polite. Example: “Os viene bien a las 10, ¿verdad?” (more polite).

¿a que sí? = you’re looking for enthusiastic agreement. Example: “Hoy lo dejamos cerrado, ¿a que sí?” (you expect a clear “yes”).

¿vale? = you’re asking for OK/permission. Very typical in Spain. Example: “Lo subo a producción esta tarde, ¿vale?”

Listening tip: the intonation rises at the end. In Spanish offices you’ll hear these tags every day, mixed with other office colloquial language.

Mini‑dialogue: Marta: “Cerramos esto hoy, ¿vale?” — Luis: “Sí, mejor, ¿verdad?” — Ana: “Está casi, ¿no?” — Equipo: “¡A que sí!”

Comprehension check:

Which one sounds more polite/neutral to confirm something in a meeting?
¿verdad?
¿a que sí?
¿no?
¿vale?
“¿verdad?” sounds neutral‑polite; “¿no?” is more basic; “¿a que sí?” looks for enthusiasm; “¿vale?” asks for an “OK”.
Meeting with a client — you need a polite tone.
Complete: “Lo revisamos luego, ___”
¿vale?
¿a que sí?
¿verdad?
¿no?
“¿vale?” asks for confirmation / “okay”. The others mostly check a fact or seek agreement, not permission/OK.
You’re asking for “OK”, not just confirming a fact.
Which tag expresses enthusiasm and looks for strong agreement?
¿no?
¿a que sí?
¿verdad?
“¿a que sí?” is an energetic form, like “isn’t that right?”; it expects agreement.
Literally: “isn’t it (like that)?”, but with a positive expectation.
