In Spain people say "por la mañana" when there is no specific time mentioned ("in the morning" in general). The expression "de la mañana" is only used when you specify an exact hour: "a las 9 de la mañana". The forms "en la mañana" / "a la mañana" are Latin American or incorrect in standard European Spanish (ES).
